Sports Massage

A sports message is a deep tissue massage technique which releases muscle tension and restores balance to the musculo-skeletal system. Frequent massages are used as a prevention of injuries. A constant build up of tension in the muscles due to regular activity and daily living lead to stresses on joint, ligaments, tendons and muscles. Muscle imbalance may develop which left untreated will cause discomfort or impede movement and performance.  By applying appropriate massage techniques the therapist is able to manipulate, relax and break down scar tissue to reduce the stress on these soft tissue structures.

Mobilisations

A therapist may apply mobilisation techniques which are slow oscillatory or sustained movements to break down adhesions, stretch and increase extensibility of joint capsules. These techniques are used to decrease pain and to increase mobility of a joint.

Injury Diagnosis

The qualified therapist will initially undertake a consultation to diagnose, depending on the injury. Postural deformities leg length imbalances, muscular imbalances, ligament testing, muscle strength tests, case history analysis are all looked at to determine the diagnosis.

Medical Acupunture

Medical Acupuncture (dry needling) involves inserting fine needles for a therapeutic effect. Overall, it is an adaptation of the Chinese method just using modern up-to-date knowledge of anatomy and physiology.

Electrotherapy

Electrotherapy is one form of intervention that has the capacity to influence the process associated to tissue repair. There are various modalities grouped under this category, TENS, Ultrasound and Inferential.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage uses essential oils, warm basalt and cold marble stones to relax the muscles and soft tissues, allowing for a deeper and more intense all-over massage. The stones are coated in fragrant oil to increase your sense of relaxation and calmness. When oil is smoothed gently onto the body, each stone in turn can be worked along by the therapist's hands. The therapist may alternate the application of the warm stones with frozen or cooling marble ones, aimed at stimulating the nervous system.

Rehabilitation & Stretching

Rehabilitation exercises are a key fundamental aspect to prevent re-injury and to educate the muscle back to its optimum strength.

Stretching is used to help to maintain flexibility and is vital in preventing injuries. Various types of stretching can be used; dynamic, static, ballistic, PNF and MET. Using these techniques we can lengthen soft tissue to reduce tension in the muscle.
